All earth is hopeful...Hope is born!

Advent and Christmas celebrations at Zion

Advent is the Season that leads us to Christmas - the celebration of God coming into our world as one of us.  Advent is spent watching and waiting.  For while we on the coming of Jesus, we also celebrate that he has come and remains with us.  Advent is a time when we search for Jesus in our world, in your life.

So how do we talk about Advent?  Better yet, why do we need to bother with Advent when the rest of the world wants to usher in the celebration and not watch and wait?  Dr. Mark Oldenburg put together a presentation a few years ago to help congregations, pastors, and individuals help put the pieces together and answer these questions.

December tends to be a very busy time for people all trying to get ready for Christmas.  However, how many of us actually take time to spiritually ready ourselves for Christmas?  Throughout the month of December and season of Advent, we will gather for dinner at 6pm and worship and worship at 7pm.  You can participate either in-person or virtually.  The theme for these Wednesday night gatherings is the Hymns of Advent.  Each night, we will explore a particular hymn by looking at the history of the hymn, the biography of the writers, and theology embedded in the words.

Let our kids teach us the story at our annual Christmas Pageant

Performance will be Sunday, December 18 at 6:30pm

Rehearsals scheduled for December 8 and 15
from 6-7pm

A little bit about the pageant...What happens when kids show up to perform a traditional Christmas Pageant…in their Halloween costumes?! That’s what happens in this contemporary spin on a traditional nativity play. It’s up their youth director to improvise her way through the story of Jesus’ birth in a hilarious and heartfelt way that connects biblical figures with modern day superheroes, villains, and more. In the end, everyone learns that perhaps being a little bit “mixed-up” is something we can all rejoice in.
