Instead of holding Confirmation once a month, we have moved it to Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. so that families do not have to rush back in the evening for class. Classes will last less than an hour to better accommodate the attention spans of middle and high school students.

While we would love for confirmands to attend class each week, we understand that life can sometimes get in the way. Therefore, we ask that confirmands attend a minimum of three times a month, but it would be very beneficial if they can attend as often as possible.  If your child is going to miss multiple classes, arrangements can be made to accommodate your child’s schedule.  To motivate attendance, if everyone in the class attends 3 out 4 classes for there months, we will throw a video game party at Zion and buy Taco Bell for lunch. In the Spring, the reward will be an afternoon at Spinners Arcade.

We are asking each parent to sign up for one week as a chaperone. That parent will be responsible for bringing the second breakfast and serving as the second adult in the classroom.

We are asking each confirmand to participate in the life of the church. We will talk with the confirmands to discover where their individual gifts and talents lie. Some ideas include:

We have a bunch of different clipboards with the different areas where you can sign up and let us know where you would like to serve.  We will take care of adding you to the schedule. 

We will be meeting downstairs in the Youth Room. This is a more intimate environment that will be more conducive to conversation and relationship building.

Because of the room change, we will not be able to offer Zoom participation. If you can't make it one week, don't worry! Participating in person is more important.

We are going to add service projects as part of the curriculum. We will talk more about this at the beginning of the year.

We are bringing back Worship Notes! We are asking confirmands to complete the worship notes three times a month.  You can put your completed notes in the Youth Room or hand them to either Pastor Matt or Pstor Diane.  They will return your notes next week at church. 

To better improve our communication, we are creating a log book to keep track of class work, service projects, and reading.  We ask that you sign the log book to say that a task was completed and return it each Confirmation Class.  By the end of the year, we hope that it will show how far they have come in their faith journey. 

The cost of the books and Bible is $90 per student. We are going to provide each confirmand with a bag to cary these items.  The church will cover the initial cost, but if books or Bibles are lost, parents will be responsible for reimbursing the church for their replacement.

Our Confirmation Class is not just for those who have not yet been confirmed; it is also for those who have already been confirmed. We have changed some of our modules to include topics and material that we have not taught before. We hope this Confirmation Class can become a class for all middle and high school students. Those who have already been confirmed can serve as mentors while continuing to learn themselves. Catechetical studies are not “one and done”; they are meant to be revisited over and over again. We hope that by the time a student graduates from high school, they will have a strong grounding in the basics of Christianity and Lutheran theology. Classes will be designed to accommodate both students who have completed Confirmation and those who are still in the process.
