Youth and Family

Valentine Dinner Ticket Sales We offer many programs, events and activities for families to be included in God's family here at Zion. We know from experience that the children and youth who are active in a church community are well prepared for a meaningful life in a complex world.

I have called you by name, you are mine. - Isaiah 43:1

Upcoming Events

February 20th: Day Off Program (9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)
Zion is offering a day off program for elementary aged children (K-5) on February 20th from 9:00am to 3:00pm when FCPS schools are closed. The program will run much like the Wednesday Summer Program did. During our day off programs we will be offering crafts, games, movies, and field trips. Children must bring their own bagged lunch, since no lunch will be provided. The cost is $10 per child ($20 per child for walk-ins). If you plan to attend, you must complete the registration form. Advanced sign-ups are helpful to plan for transportation in cases of a field trip. We encourage you to have your children join us, and for them to invite their friends.

February 24th and 25th: 30 Hour Famine
Worldwide, 925 million people are hungry. Every day, as many as 11,000 children under age five die due to hunger-related causes. That‘s one kid every 8 seconds. Starvation is a huge and preventable problem. With events like the 30 Hour Famine, we can help end it. We can overcome hunger! By joining together our group can give hope to families living in poverty. And by going hungry so others don't have to, you'll draw closer to God and each other and make a lasting difference for children around the world.

To those who aren't familiar...a 30 Hour Famine is like a lock-in except you don't eat for 30 hours. Prior to the lock-in we will hold fundraisers and raise money for the hungry. On Friday, February 24th, our high schoolers (and the adults who join them) will stop eating at 11:30am. After school they'll gather at the church for the lock-in. They'll play games, have devotions, and just have fun! At 5:30pm on Saturday, they'll end their famine with their first meal being Holy Communion as a group. They'll then celebrate their accomplishments by going to CiCi's Pizza!!

High schoolers: Invite friends via Facebook, send them a letter, send them an email, send them a carrier pigeon, it doesn't matter. Just invite your friends!!! Sign up on the youth bulletin board or contact Ginger Trautman.

What our congregation can do: Sponsor a youth or adult who is participating. The goal is for each person to raise $360, which is the cost to feed and care for a child for an entire year! If you would like to donate, please make checks payable to Zion Lutheran Church and put 30-Hour Famine in the memo line. Checks should be given to Ginger Trautman. Finally, pray for all those participating as well as those they advocate for.
