Committees
A council task force presented a Congregational Flow Chart
at the annual meeting. This chart will begin to help us understand the relationship between the staff and
committees and how we will accomplish God’s mission.
Altar Guild
Co-Chairperson: Jo Ann Poffinberger (301-371-5448)
Co-Chairperson: Sharon Boyer
The overall goal of the Altar Guild is to see that the worship space is kept beautiful and
in order, both to glorify God and to provide a setting that enables the congregation to worship
in a meaningful way. The Altar Guild is entrusted with preparing the Chancel and its furnishings
for worship, baptisms, weddings, and funerals. The Altar Guild consists of four sub-committees:
Flowers, Paraments, Vestments, and Communion Assistants. Members help with communion preparation
and cleaning up afterward, as well as delivering Easter lilies and Christmas poinsettias. They
help decorate the church at Easter and Christmas and prepare individual candles used for Christian
Eve services.

Chairperson: Dixie Eichelberger
Secretary/Treasurer: Ken Reeder (301-371-6542)
Christian Education
Chairperson: Jeff Derr
The Christian Education committee is one of the standing committees of Zion, addressing discipleship
and continued growth in learning the scriptures; dedicated teachers are here to help students
learn, explore, and share the Word of God through bible-based instruction focusing on an in-depth
study of all books of the bible. The children's program uses a four-week study of each theme
using fun activities, crafts, story time and plays. We also offer a young child/parent class
for infants and toddlers.
Classes include nursery (infants to two years old), preschool, elementary, middle school, senior
high and adult classes. Youth attend confirmation classes as 8th and 9th graders. Classes meet
from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday mornings, and also meet during the summer months. Zion also
offers bible studies throughout the week. New students are always welcome!
